2019 is here, and I’m looking forward to the new year. I had a really good 2018, and I can only hope 2019 will be better. Here are some thoughts I have about the upcoming year.
My one hope for everyone in the new year is that more people can come together than before. I’m sure many of you feel the same way that I do: there is too much dividing us. And the funny thing is, we have more in common than we have that is different. 2019 would be a great year to find what connects us with each other and use that as a bridge to try and be more understanding of others.
There is so much good in the world that gets overshadowed by the bad. I think 2019 would be a good year to focus more on what is good than what is bad. Spending time focusing on the outrage and hate that seems to spread easily online only brings me down, so I’m going to take a different approach with my social media usage. I’m not going to dwell on the stuff that brings me down.
I read a lot of books this year, and I’m really happy I did. Books are a great way to escape and expand the mind. I hope to continue that trend in 2019. I read a lot of fiction and very little non-fiction, but I’m thinking of trying out some additional non-fiction books this year and seeing what I can learn. I usually read one or two and never really get very far into them because they don’t captivate me like a good fiction novel does. That is why it will be an interesting challenge for me.
Finally, I think I want to reach out to my extended family more this year. I’ve drifted apart from so many of them over the years. Not because I don’t like them but because I just get lost in doing other stuff. It’s amazing how thinking about reaching out to someone can easily escape the mind for so long. There are some family members that I think about and realize that I haven’t seen them for four or five years when it only feels like it’s been a couple of months. Time is going by way to quick.
Here is to the new year. I hope it will be a great one for you too.
